I had received intelligence that the Gramercy Tavern, near Gramercy Park, served a fine burger, so I went. The Tavern opens at 12:00pm and I arrived a bit early, so I headed to the park and sat against one of the walls. Gramercy Park, from what I understand, is the only private park in Manhattan - you need a key to get in, and I don't have a key. Twelve noon was drawing near when I received an SMS text message from a friend asking if he could meet me at the Tavern. Why sure! The only thing better than enjoying a good burger is enjoying one with a special friend. My friend arrived shortly and we entered the Tavern. A nice place where a bunch of cool and affluent people ate. I am neither of those things, but I was treated nicely. My friend and I sat at the bar and ordered the Tavern burger. It arrived. It looked like a good bastard. There was a nice brioche bun, some cheddar cheese which had been pre-melted in a skillet before being added to the burger, and bacon. House made potato chips were also on hand. It was an enjoyable burger, but did not reach the heights of Nomad or Roberta's. The chips were enjoyable enough but did not elicit groans. It was a nice experience but not a must-have burger. The search for burger groanings will continue.
