Sweet biscuits of jesus. That's really all I want. The sweet biscuits of jesus. But where does one find such biscuits? Not at the Gander, one of Harlem's new "professional gay multicultural progressive gentrified-certified" restaurants. Which isn't to say I didn't enjoy my meal at the Gander - more on that to come - it's just to say the biscuits I ate there were less than sublime.
So what is this Gander place? It's a hip restaurant near City College with exposed brick, nice flooring, different colored, interesting people, a nice beer selection, etc. One could see graduate students from City College flocking there after school for frivolity, or non-profit workers eating brunch who have moved into the neighborhood for its more reasonable rent prices.
So yes, the food. I ordered fried chicken on a biscuit with egg, slab bacon, and gravy with crispy potatoes. The serving was generous and it was enjoyable. The gravy was smotheringful and tasty, and the chicken had a nice, crispy crust. The biscuits, as mentioned, were not sweet biscuits of jesus, but rather a bit dry. Still, all in all, a nice meal.
The end.
