I frequent Popeye's for chicken tenders. How often do I go? Well let's just say often enough so that as soon as I am even in the vicinity of a Popeye's people start chuckling and saying "there goes that funny bastard for some Popeye's tenders again!" Yes, I do love their tenders. I get a basket full of them with Popeye's famous cajun fries and, of course, a biscuit. To wash it down I enjoy a nice cold Dr. Pepper. All of this being said, I am never surprised when I go to Popeye's. I get my tender basket, and it's reliably delectable. But tonight I went to Popeye's and had a chicken tender surprise.
"I'll have a number 6 please."
"Regular or hot?"
"But wait, I want the tenders!?"
"Yes, we now offer our tenders in both regular and hot."
"Hot? But? Oh wow!"
Yes, up until now, tenders were tenders. Delicious to be sure, but in a regular batter only. Now, just like the fried chicken, you can get the tenders hot. When you bite into one of these tasty sons-of-bitches you can actually see a redness surrounding the meat. What a flavorful surprise, what a tender surprise.
