The Chronicles of Creams

Momofuku Milk Bar is a milk bar, and frankly I'm not sure what to say now, for what the hell is a milk bar, in the first place?  A bar that serves milk?  I just don't get it.  I suppose I could Google this term and find out more, but in a way I prefer to let the concept live in my imagination, where all truly great things reside.

But yes, Momofuku Milk Bar serves milk, and their cereal milk is one of the most strangely satisfying drinks I have ever had.  What exactly is this cereal milk?  Let me use the following anecdote to illustrate.

The other night while enjoying a treat (which I will discuss momentarily), a large group of annoying adolescent girls walked in and ordered some cereal milk and sat down and started running their pie holes.  I was getting ready to stick a screwdriver into my eye when one of the girls took a sip of her cereal milk and said "this tastes just like the leftover milk from a bowl of cereal."  Then, she added, "oh god this is so accurate!"  I understand this might not quite make sense if you've never had the cereal milk at Milk Bar, but this teenager's words were exactly right.  Never in the history of the world has a product been so aptly named.

Anyway, the treat I consumed that evening was the cereal milk soft serve with corn flake crunchies.  The soft serve had that subtly sweet, grainy salty flavor of the cereal milk, and the crunchies added a delightful...crunch.  It was a sophisticated cream for a sophisticated adult, much like myself.  It may have been nice with a mild caramel sauce and perhaps some whipped cream, yet cream beggars cannot be cream choosers.
