Premise/Promise

Phenomenon, the 1996 drama starring John Travolta, Kyra Sedgwick and Forest Whitaker, is surely the greatest film in the history of the cinema. If you haven't seen it, you must.

Ok, actually, Phenomenon is a pretty ridiculous movie. However, the basic premise has a TON of promise...premise/promise/premise/promise/premise/promise...sorry, I got carried away there.

Premise/Promise: Travolta experiences what appears to be a flash of light in the sky, and then curiously develops extraordinary mental powers. In the end, after speculations of extraterrestrial involvement, Travolta is diagnosed with a brain tumor that is stimulating brain function, allowing Travolta to absorb vast amounts of information and pick up objects using the Force and other such things.

Anyway, rather than the stupid melodrama that is Phenomenon, why not make a movie in which a rare type of brain tumor gives its victims incredible abilities, and make more of a pulpy comic-book type story?
